Bengaluru To Get India’s First Startup & Tech Museum By 2027
Bengaluru is set to open India’s first museum dedicated to startups and technology by 2027. The museum will come up on the NGEF campus in Baiyappanahalli, transforming the old Switch Gear factory shed into a 12,000-square-metre innovation hub. It will be developed through a public-private partnership between the Department of Electronics, IT & BT and S&T, and the civic initiative UnboxingBLR.
A Museum That Captures India’s Innovation Journey
The museum will chronicle India’s rise in science, technology and entrepreneurship, covering nearly five decades of progress. Its aim is not only to showcase landmark moments and influential innovators but also to highlight the country’s future possibilities. Visitors can expect interactive exhibits, immersive storytelling and technology-driven displays designed to bring India’s digital evolution to life.
A global request for proposals for the museum’s design will be floated soon. With a projected cost of around ₹100 crore and a development timeline of three years, the project reflects the city’s ambition to build a world-class destination for tech enthusiasts, students and industry professionals.
Leadership and Governance
The initiative will be guided by a board comprising industry veterans and government representatives. Alongside the board chair from UnboxingBLR, leaders from major organisations such as Biocon, Infosys and Mindtree will contribute to shaping the museum’s vision. Senior officials from the IT & BT departments will ensure alignment with the state’s broader innovation goals.
Strengthening Bengaluru’s Tech Ecosystem
The museum will be located next to Innoverse, a government-backed deep-tech incubator spread across 11,000 square metres. Together, these developments underscore Bengaluru’s commitment to fostering innovation and strengthening its position as India’s startup capital.
Beyond celebrating past achievements, the museum aims to inspire future creators by bringing together history, current advancements and emerging technologies under one roof.
