Tradition meets Innovation! The MP Hack & Make ‘Build-it’ track is calling for tech solutions to support our weavers, potters, and artisans. Supported by MPIDC and MSME, this is your chance to engineer tools that empower Madhya Pradesh’s rural economy. Register now to build for the grassroots!
MADHYA PRADESH: In a significant move to bridge the gap between centuries-old tradition and cutting-edge technology, the Madhya Pradesh Hack&Make has unveiled a crucial theme under its flagship ‘Build-it‘ track: Artisan Tools & Productivity Boosters.
The event is issuing a clarion call to the state’s engineering talent, product designers, and hardware startups to develop tangible solutions that can modernize the workflows of Madhya Pradesh’s renowned artisan communities.
Engineering for the Grassroots
While many hackathons focus purely on digital software, the ‘Build-it’ track is distinct in its demand for physical hardware prototyping. The organizers believe that while e-commerce platforms help sell products, genuine intervention is needed at the production stage to reduce drudgery and improve quality.
The challenge is not to replace the artisan’s skill, but to augment it with smart engineering.
The Problem Statements: Tradition Meets Tech
The hackathon has laid out specific, high-impact challenges aimed at key sectors of the state’s rural economy. Participants are tasked with developing:
-
Smart Tools for Handloom Weavers: Ergonomic devices to reduce physical strain and increase weaving speed without compromising intricate designs.
-
Next-Gen Pottery Tech: Innovations in wheel efficiency or energy-efficient micro-kilns for rural potters.
-
Bamboo Worker Toolkits: Precision tools for faster splitting, processing, and finishing of bamboo products.
-
Aids for Gond Artists: Tools that assist in the preparation of natural pigments or ergonomic workspaces for detailed painting.
-
ODOP Productivity Boosters: Custom hardware solutions tailored specifically for producers under the ‘One District, One Product’ initiative, aimed at standardizing quality and scaling output.
Backed by Industrial Powerhouses
This initiative is strongly supported by the Madhya Pradesh Industrial Development Corporation (MPIDC) and the MSME Department. Their involvement signifies a government roadmap to not just identify these innovations but potentially pilot them within actual artisan clusters across the state.
“Our artisans are the backbone of our cultural economy. The goal of this track is to equip them with the same caliber of technological support that modern factories enjoy,” a spokesperson from the MSME Department stated. “We are looking for frugal, robust, and scalable engineering solutions that can be deployed in rural settings.”
A Call to Makers and Engineers
The event offers a rare opportunity for students and startups to step out of the coding labs and into the real world. By registering for this track, teams gain the chance to have their prototypes validated by industry experts and government officials who have the mandate to deploy these solutions at scale.
The registration window is currently open. Innovators passionate about using technology for social and economic upliftment are encouraged to form teams and apply immediately on the official Hack&Make portal.
