Plugzmart’s EV Fast Charger Earns ARAI Certification, Marking Key Milestone for IIT-Madras Startup
Plugzmart, a startup incubated at IIT Madras, has received ARAI certification for its high-power electric vehicle charger, designed specifically for heavy vehicles.
While several startups in India have achieved ARAI certification for their EV chargers, Plugzmart claims a significant first: it’s the only one so far to receive certification using fully in-house developed controller and PLC modules, without relying on imported components. The startup emphasized that both the hardware and software for its 240kW DC fast charger were developed internally—supporting India’s ‘Make in India’ push in the electric mobility sector. The charger can reportedly power up high-end electric cars and heavy-duty vehicles in just 20 minutes.
Designed for High-Power Demands
Plugzmart’s solution is tailored for high-power EV charging needs, targeting premium electric four-wheelers, commercial fleets, and highway infrastructure. The system is built for efficiency, safety, and reliability, complying with both Indian and international standards. It also features a smart power distribution system that optimizes energy flow while preventing grid overload.
Founder and CEO Vivek Samynathan highlighted the broader impact of this development, stating that India’s EV charging ecosystem is rapidly advancing with innovations in fast charging, load management, and homegrown tech. He added that Plugzmart’s indigenous controller and PLC modules could play a pivotal role in reducing the country’s reliance on imported components, thus cutting costs and boosting self-reliance in the EV sector.
