Sikkim Startup Apuphi Secures German Investment, Valued At $4.4 Million

Apuphi, a Sikkim-based artificial intelligence startup, has raised Foreign Direct Investment from Germany at a company valuation of USD 4.4 million (approximately Rs 40 crore), marking a historic milestone for the State’s emerging technology sector.

Co-founded by Diwash Kapil Chettri and Sulabh Raj Gurung, Apuphi becomes one of the first AI-focused companies from Sikkim to attract structured foreign direct investment, putting the State on India’s startup map, a press release informs.

The funding comes at a significant moment for Sikkim’s technology future. With Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang-Golay recently announcing the formation of a comprehensive AI policy for the State, Apuphi’s success demonstrates that Sikkim can compete globally in the technology sector, the release states.

Apuphi is paving the way for the next generation of entrepreneurs in Sikkim and showing local investors that technology ventures from our state can attract international confidence.

Apuphi is building an AI-powered career ecosystem platform that helps people at every stage of their working lives – fresh graduates looking for their first jobs; mid-career professionals wanting to switch fields; workers affected by layoffs seeking new opportunities; and blue-collar workers finding task-based gig work.

The platform uses artificial intelligence to provide job matching, upskilling, interview preparation, mentorship, and access to flexible employment opportunities.

“This investment proves that geography doesn’t limit what we can build,” said co-founders Chettri and Gurung. “A startup from Sikkim can create globally relevant technology. We’re not just building a company – we’re showing that innovation can come from anywhere, including right here in our home State.”

The German investment was structured as Series I Compulsorily Convertible Preference Shares, following all Indian regulatory requirements. The company plans to use the funding to strengthen AI technology infrastructure, expand the platform’s capabilities, and hire more team members, particularly from Sikkim and the North East.

For generations, Sikkim’s economy has been built on agriculture, handicrafts, tourism, and natural resources. Apuphi’s success represents a new direction – showing that Sikkim can also build knowledge-based, technology-driven businesses that create high-value employment for local youth.

The founders emphasized that Apuphi’s journey holds important lessons for Sikkim’s investment community and aspiring entrepreneurs:

“To local investors: technology startups from Sikkim are viable investment opportunities. International investors are paying attention – local capital should too,” said Chettri and Gurung.

“To young people in Sikkim: you can build the future from right here. The internet has made geography irrelevant. What matters is your determination, your ideas, and your willingness to solve real problems.”

The State government’s newly announced AI policy aims to position Sikkim as a forward-thinking technology hub. Apuphi’s German funding validates this vision and demonstrates that the policy framework is already attracting results, said the founders.

“The CM’s AI policy is a wonderful step that will pave the way for future generations of technology entrepreneurs in Sikkim,” the founders noted. “We’re proud to be among the first examples of what’s possible, and we’re excited to see many more Sikkim-based tech companies follow.”

The company plans to continue building its core operations from Sikkim, maintaining strong roots in the State while planning to serve users across India and potentially beyond. The platform will supposedly be launched at quarter 1 of 2026, the release mentions.
