Zoomcar Partners with CARS24 to Set New Benchmarks for Self-Drive Car Safety
Zoomcar, India’s largest peer-to-peer car-sharing marketplace, has partnered with CARS24, a prominent homegrown used car transaction platform, in an attempt to create new standards for vehicle checks, safety, and location tracking in the self-drive car-sharing industry.
As India’s urban transportation scene changes, the self-drive rental sector has attracted considerable interest from consumers looking for flexible and budget-friendly options to conventional car ownership. Nevertheless, the rapid expansion of this sector has highlighted deficiencies in vehicle quality management and operational transparency, potentially undermining customer confidence and the enduring viability of the business model. Through its partnership with CARS24, known for its technology-driven processes in buying and selling used cars, Zoomcar aims to proactively tackle these issues and create a stronger, more dependable ecosystem for both car owners (hosts) and guests.
Through the collaboration, CARS24 will utilize its in-depth knowledge in vehicle diagnostics to perform thorough Pre-Delivery Inspections (PDIs) on all newly added host vehicles prior to their listing on Zoomcar’s platform. The inspections will include vital parts like the engine, brakes, electrical systems, suspension, lighting, and tyre condition, guaranteeing that only safe, roadworthy, and well-performing cars are offered for self-drive rentals. Vehicles that successfully complete the rigorous inspections will be labeled as ‘verified’ on the platform, providing potential renters with greater assurance about the quality of their rental
“At Zoomcar, enhancing the guest experience is a constant priority,” said Anirudh Lamba, Head – Brand & Partnerships at Zoomcar. “This partnership allows us to introduce an added layer of safety, accountability, and transparency, ensuring every vehicle meets a higher standard before it goes live on our platform.”
The pilot run of the partnership is set to start with host vehicles in Delhi — one of Zoomcar’s biggest metro markets — before expanding the model to other large cities depending on its success. The phased rollout is a testament to the company’s preference for scalable models that could easily be integrated into the rapidly expanding peer-to-peer car-sharing platform.
Along with PDIs, the agreement provides for fitting all newly authenticated vehicles with high-end GPS tracking devices. These will enable Zoomcar to track real-time vehicle location and driver behavior, ensuring an added level of security in the event of misuse or route deviation. This technology also enables hosts with more control over the usage of their cars, while encouraging guest drivers towards safer practices.
This strategic action occurs as India’s shared mobility industry experiences a major transformation, with consumers seeking enhanced levels of reliability, safety, and transparency. Industry projections indicate that the car-sharing market in India is anticipated to expand at a CAGR exceeding 20% over the next five years, fueled by growing urbanization, shifting consumer preferences, and escalating vehicle ownership costs. Collaborations such as this indicate an evolved stage of development for the industry, showcasing how technological advancements and data-oriented solutions can tackle ongoing operational challenges
CARS24, which has built its reputation on transparent, rigorous vehicle inspections for millions of used car transactions nationwide, brings proven credibility and scale to the table. Gajendra Jangid, Co-Founder and CMO at CARS24, emphasized this alignment, saying, “We’ve inspected over a million cars across India, and one thing is clear, trust in used vehicles is built on transparency and data. The self-drive rental space has grown rapidly, but quality standards haven’t kept pace.” He added, “Through this partnership with Zoomcar, we are bringing the same inspection rigour that powers India’s used car ecosystem to a new category, giving hosts more control, and guests more confidence.”
Industry analysts believe this collaboration could become a template for how India’s nascent peer-to-peer car-sharing model can scale responsibly. By setting clearer expectations for vehicle condition, ensuring greater accountability, and leveraging real-time data to monitor usage, Zoomcar and CARS24 are not just solving immediate operational challenges but also contributing to building long-term consumer trust in the shared mobility ecosystem.
The companies have also hinted at exploring additional areas of collaboration in the future, such as using inspection data to offer predictive maintenance services for hosts or creating tailored insurance products that reflect real-time vehicle usage and condition. Moreover, the partnership complements Zoomcar’s broader mission to democratize access to cars while maximizing idle asset utilization, helping car owners generate additional income from underused vehicles.
As the pilot is rolled out in Delhi and scaled up to other urban centers, both the firms will keep monitoring guest insights, operations data, and host satisfaction in order to refine the program. By merging CARS24’s robust inspection procedure with Zoomcar’s mobility platform with a digital focus, this alliance plans to create new industry benchmarks for safety, transparency, and customer satisfaction in India’s rapidly changing car-sharing business.
